Black Studies Center - Electronic Resource of the Month for July 2021

by Samantha Silver on 2021-07-01T12:00:00-07:00 in Cultural Studies, English, History, Humanities | 0 Comments

This July, the Libraries chose to highlight our newest acquisition, Black Studies Center.  This database combines historic material from the Schomburg Studies on the Black Experience, Index to Black Periodicals Full Text, Black Literature Index, and the Chicago Defender historical newspaper from 1912-1975.

Like all of our ProQuest databases, the Black Studies Center may be included in searches of all ProQuest databases.  When searching the BSC on its own, you can search for all types of materials or limit results to full text journals, historical newspapers, essays, audio/visual materials or primary sources.

Results lists can be narrowed on the left-side of the screen by date, material type, peer reviewed status, etc.  Also, clicking the "Save Search / Alert" link on the right side provides a permalink to the search results so that you can share your findings with colleagues.

Black Studies Center Timelines - another way to explore history!

Timelines are organized by year and include important events that shaped a specific topic in Black history.  Some listings include buttons that send researchers directly to material on that subject so that they can acquire more detailed information from primary sources, journals, essays or videos.

Take some time to explore the Black Studies Center.  Find additional information on the database contents as well as sample searches on ProQuest's libguide or join us for a brief webinar on July 29 at 2:00 pm PDT.
