Cite Your Sources

Your guide to source citation and management.

Where do I find the citation information in/on resources?

Source data for citations can be found ...

IN BOOKS:  The title page and the verso (following page) provide all the information you need to cite your source.

IN ARTICLES:

  • Print articles -- check the front cover and the table of contents page
  • Electronic articles -- check the database record (usually above the full-text of the article).

NOTE:  For citation purposes, the words Source, Periodical Title and Journal Title are synonymous

Citation Generators

NOTE
Electronic Citation Generators are tools that should be used alongside the print/electronic copies of official style guides. They are NOT infallible.

  • Zotero (requires login/password; access as a Firefox add-on bookmarker)
  • Knightcite - A useful source for generating single source citations in MLA, APA, or Chicago style.  Good for short papers and presentations.
  • Referen©ite (From the University of Aukland -- provides examples of MLA, APA, Chicago, and ACS styles.  Also offers tips for avoiding plagiarism and succinctly explains the reasons "why we cite sources.")
  • WorldCat (can export book, article, and movie citations to Zotero or EasyBib or create bibliographies through free WorldCat account)
