This month, we turn our attention to open access resources. These database collections, while free for all to read, come from sources that are just as reputable as those publishing paid-for content. One benefit of open access sources is that they are available to ALL researches. So, when you graduate from the Mount, you will retain permission to glean knowledge from their content.
We invite you to check out the Public Library of Science (PLoS).
Pro Tips: When first entering the site and scrolling down, it has a section that lists the research communities it offers. Once one of the communities is clicked, you will be led to a page listing research topics related to the chosen community.
Best Use: This database is helpful for students who are writing research papers for their courses. It provides a variety of research papers that also list the date it was published and how many times it has been used for citations. It is a great database when students need help finding references or ideas on what to use for an experiment.
