Do you sometimes find that you want to contextualize a societal issue?  It can be helpful to search for sources other than peer reviewed journals to find current events associated with a psychological ailment or political concern.  Newspapers are great at painting a picture of the current state of the world.

Access World News is a database that contains hundreds of newspapers in many different languages from across the globe.  With Access World News, you can select a topic from their Suggested Topics and find the issue or concept that you want to explore.

Select a topic like Social Issues to find narrow terms.

The results are displayed with news articles on the right and search filters (like date range, source location and language on the left.

You can also search the complete A-Z list of titles within the database.  For example, I searched for La Opinion, to which the libraries have print subscriptions.

Access World News has over 20 years of back issues to this publication.

Additional features of this database are the Black and Hispanic Life in America collections.  These resources include subject areas which are linked to key events or important court cases from 1976 to the present and 2010 to the present, respectively.  Clicking on an event, such as "Million Man March" opens up a results page with thousands of news articles on the topic. Asian Life in America has just been launched so stay tuned.
