Summer Reading (Electronic Resources Edition)

by Samantha Silver on 2023-05-07T10:10:00-07:00 in Film & Media, Multi-Subject, Music | 0 Comments

Perhaps you're taking fewer classes this summer, so why not check out the lighter side of the library's e-resources?

Flipster

Popular magazines that you can read on your mobile devices

Catch up on all the "light" reading of magazines like WiredSports IllustratedCuepormente, The Atlantic Monthly and more.  Read on the web in a browser or get the Flipster app and connect through the Mount's Single Sign On.   Our subscriptions include several years of back issues, so you will have plenty of reading material.  Feel free to suggest other magazines for inclusion in the collection.

Medici

Watch a classical music, opera or ballet performance.

Not a Music major or minor?  You can still enjoy a concert or catch an opera performance in the Medici.tv database.  Browse classical concerts, operas and ballets or search for a specific work and / or composer in the search box at the top of the page (underneath the words "Mount Saint Mary's University").  Did you hear about the recent L.A. Opera performance of Pellias et Melisande?  Medici doesn't have that performance, but you can still watch a performance of the opera and discover why it's one of James Conlon's favorite operas.

Swank Digital Campus

If you've had Kanopy films assigned for your classes, you already know about the plethora of films included in their database.  This summer, browse Kanopy for films that weren't assigned and stay tuned many new arrivals to the platform including Alex Winter's latest documentary, The YouTube Effect arriving.

The Mount Libraries also license some films through other database vendors.  Swank Digital Campus has a good collection of narrative films.  Most are used in classes, yet feel free to browse and enjoy.  We welcome your suggestions too.  Swank cannot provide access to ALL films, but there are many possibilities.

Watch film in Swank

Additional films may be found on the Film Studies Research Guide under "more streaming films."

More films - some with perpetual access

The license term is listed below because some films are available for more than a single year.

Of course, you can also find great books to read in a variety of ebook platforms [Ebook Central, EBSCO ebooks, JSTOR and more].  We even have books in Spanish.

Happy Summer!
