Log onto the laptop with your personal credentials or with “classroom”
Find a line art or vector design online (or create your own).
Search for free graphics in vector format: .svg or .eps
Open CorelDRAW. (Skip registration)
Create a new document: 16” width x 12” height, RGB color.
Import your design.
For your design to:
Cut the outline must be hairline: R:255, B:0, G:0 (red)
Score the outline must be hairline: R:0, B:255, G:0 (blue)
Engrave the design must be: R:0, B:0, G:0 (pure black)
Size your design to the size of the material you want to engrave/cut. Example: wooden coasters provided in the lab are approximately 4” so make sure that your design will fit within those bounds as desired
Print document to VLS2.30DT.
Find the Universal Laser System Control Panel under the hidden icon tab at the bottom of the screen.
Your design should appear there in the program.
Turn on laser with the control panel button on laser cutter.
Turn on air filter (below) with switch on back, upper right corner.
Reach behind air filter to find the switch.
Go to ULS Settings in the control panel to adjust your material settings. Set Material Type and Material Thickness, measured with calipers in inches.
Place material to be cut/engraved on laser bed.
Use Focus Tool in ULS control panel program to find placement of material.
Open laser lid/door to display red placement dot and adjust until the red dot is where you want the engraving to begin.
May need to adjust the placement of your material on the laser bed as well.
Set table height using 2” height tool. (black round tool with notch)
Use arrows for table height in control panel.
Close laser lid.
Run laser.
Voila! Project will be etched or cut!
Turn off laser and turn off filter when finished.
